Communication of public policies and citizen participation: the case of participatory budgets in the municipality of Murcia

Abstract

The present study intends to answer the question of how the communication of the participation policies of a city council are developed, in this case, the first participatory budgets implemented in the Municipality of Murcia (2022). Taking as a starting point the fact that every one of the government’s actions will have to be tied to a communication process, that will make more sense in the case of citizen participation policies, given that among its objectives are reaching a democracy and a more participatory citizenship, involved in decision-making processes. The analysis will focus on social media given its key role in nowadays communicative context as the communication vehicle between administrations and citizens.
