Abstract

This study examines the use of electoral letters as a propaganda tool during the national elections. The aim is to investigate this type of electoral tool, based on the letters sent by the four major national parties running in the general elections of 23 July 2023 in Spain. The study analyses the differences between the letters and investigates whether the candidates appeal to the main concerns identified by the CIS. To achieve this, a mixed exploratory methodology was used: descriptive-qualitative content analysis and quantitative comparison with the evolution of concerns, according to the CIS during this parliamentary term. The results enabled the identification of common characteristics and highlighted the fact that the missives follow a consistent sequence. Regarding the thematic content, notable differences were observed based on the ideological and political spectrum.
